Matilda’s Paralympic goals

Matilda was born with spina bifida, a condition which limits her mobility and muscle control. But that hasn’t stopped her from excelling at both archery and swimming and competing in both sports on the national stage. And with the Paralympics in her sights, Matilda is only getting started.

“I love both archery and swimming, and I really want to be a dual Paralympian. It would be a dream come true to make a Paralympic Games. If I hadn’t been to a Paralympics Australia Multi-Sport event, I don’t think I would have discovered how much I love archery. Or how good I am at it. It opened my eyes to a whole new world of opportunities.”

Will you give more people like Matilda the opportunity they deserve to discover their sporting talent and passion – and experience the life-changing benefits of sport?

Paralympics Australia does so much more than help elite Para-athletes realise their sporting dreams.

We are committed to creating a more inclusive society and sharing the benefits of sport with ALL people living with disabilities.

A montage of young people trying Para-sport.

Sadly, Australians like Matilda who live with impairments often face significant barriers when it comes to getting involved in sport. Some need highly specialised and expensive equipment just to race or play. Others need a support person to be able to participate.

Many are simply unaware there is a sport out there that is designed especially for their strengths and abilities. Our job is to change that.

But we need your support to help more Australians living with a disability discover their sporting talent and passion.

Your generous gift today will help fund more Multi-Sport Get Involved Days, so more people like Matilda can find a sport they love and enjoy.

Will you help give promising Para-athletes like Matilda the chance to chase their sporting dreams? Become a regular supporter today.

With national titles in both archery and swimming under her belt – and the backing of her hero Ellie Cole – Matilda has her sights firmly set on representing Australia at the Paralympics. But whatever the future holds, Para-sport has had a powerful and positive impact on her life.

“Sport has given me an opportunity to stay fit and healthy, and to keep the muscles in my legs and back strong so I can keep walking. It’s given me the chance to make lots of great friends and meet other people who have the same disability as me and understand the challenges I face. But most importantly, sport has given me the confidence to try new things and push myself. It gives me hope when I need it most.”
